Apex Nitrate Removal Filter

Nitrate is a compound that occurs naturally and also has many human-made sources. Nitrate typically gets into water through surface runoff or leakage from wastewater, landfills, fertilized soil, urban drainage or septic systems.  Some groundwater has nitrate concentrations that present a health risk – especially for babies. You cannot taste, see, or smell nitrate in your water.

Our unit uses Aldex Strong Base Anion Macroporous Nitrate Selective Resin (NSR) to effectively remove arsenic from your water supply, ensuring that your family is safe from its harmful effects. With our system installed, you can have peace of mind knowing that every faucet in your home is a source of clean, safe, and nitrates-free water.

How does a Nitrate Filter work?
Nitrate is a compound that occurs naturally and also has many human-made sources. You cannot taste, see, or smell nitrate in your water.

  1. Hard water enters your home from a main water pipe or well and flows through a sediment filter cartridge that removes sediment, silt, sand and dirt. The sediment filter extends the life of water softeners and water filters, as well as preventing damage to control valves or pumps.
  2. Next, the water flows through the nitrate filter filled with Aldex NSR. Aldex NSR is a macroporous, strong base anion which is highly selective for nitrates over sulfates. Aldex NSR’s unique functional group eliminates nitrate dumping at the end of the run even in the presence of high sulfates. Its resistance to nitrate dumping makes Aldex NSR a superior resin in nitrate removal applications. Further, the functional group used to manufacture Aldex NSR has shown a very high affinity for perchlorate, making this the resin of choice when designing non-regenerable, perchlorate remediation systems.
  3. Water flows out of the nitrate filter and into a water softener, to soften your water before you now experience purified and soft water throughout your home.
  4. The unit must be backwashed at a specified flow rate for effective removal of contaminants. The backwash frequency shall be every 24 to 48 hours for continuous operating unit.

Why do I need a nitrate filter for my house?

Answer: Nitrates are more commonly found in well water. Nitrates are chemicals that get into groundwater from contamination with fertilizer, manure, or septic systems, sewage, or erosion of natural deposits. Nitrates make it hard for your red blood cells to carry oxygen. This can be dangerous for infants and some adults.

Will a Brita or refrigerator filters filter out nitrates from drinking water?

Answer: Activated carbon filters, such as those in a “Brita” water pitcher, do not remove nitrates. Reverse Osmosis is our number one recommendation for treating nitrates in your drinking water. Reverse Osmosis will effectively remove up to 95% of nitrates in your water depending on your original water temperature, quality and system pressure.
